Later, the party split up within Vallaki.
With this discovery weighing heavily on their minds, the party decided to leave the tower and return to Vallaki.
Victor then led them to the attic, a more secluded space where they could speak freely. There, the party explained their interest in the symbols. Victor, clearly eager to defy his father in his own way, revealed that the sigil belonged to a wizard named Khazan, who had built a tower somewhere outside Vallaki.
With that lead, the party left Vallaki and made their way toward the river. There, they found a small hut. Through the window, they saw two figures inside—one cleaning weapons, the other skinning a wolf. The pair gave the party directions to the tower, and after Sophia purchased a silver shortsword from them, the group set off once more.
Inside, they witnessed a heated scene. A man named Luvash was shouting in anguish about his missing daughter, Arabelle, while another man, Arrigal, restrained him. Sophia explained they had come on Madam Eva’s behalf with a birthday gift, only to learn that Arabelle had gone missing the previous night while under Alexei’s watch. The only clue left behind was a strange signet ring, now in the possession of Kasimir Velikov. The Vistani suggested that the Baron’s library might hold answers about the ring’s origin—but as Vistani, they could not enter Vallaki themselves.
It was around midday when the party stepped out of the Coffin Maker’s Shop and back into the streets of Vallaki. As they walked, they decided to stop by the local toy shop Blinsky Toys to purchase a birthday gift for Arabelle, Madam Eva’s granddaughter.
The party then traveled to the nearby Vistani settlement outside Vallaki. The scent of wine and horses lingered in the air as they approached. While Sophia and Kaz entered the large central tent, Caspian busied himself greeting each horse he could find.
With a new lead in hand, the party returned to Vallaki. As they approached the Baron’s mansion once more, Avery stepped forward and knocked, hoping to gain access to the Baron’s library—and perhaps uncover the truth behind the ring and Arabelle’s disappearance.
Avery moved to end it, raising his weapon to take Volenta’s head. Sophia protested, but before the blow could land, Volenta wrenched free and leapt to a neighboring rooftop. Avery jumped after her but ended up hanging from the edge. Seizing the moment, Caspian used Kaz’s help to vault forward, climbing over Avery and continuing the chase. But Volenta proved too quick. With unnatural speed and strange abilities, she fled beyond Vallaki’s walls and vanished into the night.
The chase across Vallaki's rooftops was frantic and dangerous. Caspian led the pursuit, close behind Volenta, with Sophia only a few steps behind him. Kaz and Avery, less agile on the tiles, struggled to keep pace but followed as best they could.
With the bones recovered, Father Lucian and Ireena agreed to carry them safely back to St. Andral’s Church. The party, battered but resolute, left the shop behind and turned their attention to whatever troubles awaited them next in Vallaki.
After battling numerous enemies on the road, the party finally arrived at the gates of Vallaki. Outside the walls, a refugee camp sprawled along the roadside. There, Ireena chose to part from the group temporarily, promising to reunite with them in the morning after speaking with people in the camp.
As the others began packing up camp in preparation for the journey to Vallaki — Sophia now traveling with them whether everyone liked it or not — Caspian stretched out on a rug beside Kaz. The argument faded into background noise, replaced by the quiet rhythm of breaking camp and the uneasy sense that their group had just grown more complicated.
Madam Eva asks the players if they can get her great-grand-niece Arabelle a birthday gift from Blinsky Toys in Vallaki and deliver the toy to the Vistani encampment to the southwest of Vallaki by noon on Arabelle's nameday in two days' time (she gives the players a pouch with 10gp). #ArabellesBirthdayGift
When they reach the crossroads between Barovia Village, Tser Pool and Ravenloft/Vallaki, they stop and look at the old wooden gallow that's right there in the middle. When behind them they can hear the sound of a horse drawn carriage.
Several dozen Barovians fled to the Town of Vallaki, almost a day’s travel to the west. The remainder stayed in the village, determined to defend their homes and those who were unable to make the journey.
