Caspian shared that his entire life had been destroyed by Strahd and his vampires, his family slaughtered before him… though he hinted there was more to the story.
After some discussion, Caspian allowed Van Richten to take a sample of his blood for study. The monster hunter promised answers within two days.
As the emotions became overwhelming, Kaz cut himself off. Unable to continue, he excused himself and left the room, leaving Caspian alone in the quiet.
As the party approached the wagon, they saw Rictavio already there, kneeling beside it and adjusting one of the wheels. Sensing the tension, Avery and Sophia stepped forward to speak with him, while Caspian and Kaz lingered a short distance behind.
He told Caspian about someone he had once known—someone who endured pain and loss but still chose to keep going, to keep smiling, no matter how much it hurt. Through that memory, Kaz admitted something deeply personal: he had never truly known what it meant to love or to be loved—and had never felt such loss before.
Later that night, Kaz excused himself and went upstairs, clearly shaken. Caspian followed shortly after, knocking softly before entering their shared room.
Meanwhile, Caspian returned to Van Richten’s wagon for a private conversation. He asked a careful, hypothetical question: whether Van Richten had ever encountered someone bitten by a vampire who neither died nor turned—something… incomplete.
Noticing this, Caspian quietly reached under the table and placed his hand over Kaz’s—a small, steady gesture of comfort.
On his way back, Caspian ran into Sophia. The two spoke quietly about the day’s events, especially their encounter with Volenta and the loss of control they had both experienced. Sophia asked if he was truly alright, but Caspian deflected, saying it was a story for another time. In turn, Sophia shared fragments of her own past, hinting at something dangerous tied to her.
Without a word, Caspian stepped forward and helped him.
Caspian, already suspicious and knowledgeable about the creatures that stalked Barovia’s forests, calmly asked the man to show them a “nice, big smile.”
Sophia began searching the room for anything useful. She opened a chest that carried a faint scent of lavender, though it turned out to be empty. After searching further, she discovered a silver dagger, wrapped in colorful bracelets that looked as though they might belong to a child. She pocketed the weapon, later handing it to Caspian.
A few moments later, Kaz and Caspian arrived on the fourth floor as well.
As Avery read the entry aloud, Caspian’s attention sharpened. Something about the writing stirred a memory. When Avery finished, Caspian asked if he could examine the papers himself—especially the diary entry.
Combined with what he had witnessed the night before—Rictavio magically altering his appearance in the stables—Caspian came to a startling conclusion:
Comparing the two pages, Caspian quickly realized the truth.
Fortunately, the party dispatched them quickly. After the battle, Kaz decided the armor might serve him better than it had served its previous occupant. With Caspian’s help, he suited up in the armor, the two of them working together to fasten the heavy pieces into place.
However, the party was still recovering from the explosion earlier that day. Kaz and Caspian in particular were badly wounded. To minimize risk, they decided to split up briefly. Sophia and Avery took the platform first, riding it upward to scout ahead while the others recovered.
Taking the page, Caspian studied it closely. The handwriting looked strangely familiar. To confirm his suspicion, he pulled a folded page from his satchel—a page from a guide about werewolves written by the famed monster hunter Rudolph van Richten, a scholar known for documenting creatures of the night, especially vampires.
An explosion erupted, engulfing both Caspian and Kaz in flames. Caspian took the brunt of the blast, and moments later, a spiked net launched from the wagon, ensnaring him and knocking him unconscious—nearly killing him.
As Caspian and Kaz recovered, Caspian offered one of his own healing potions in apology, earning a firm scolding from Sophia. Meanwhile, she moved to inspect the wagon more carefully, discovering a hidden compartment filled with useful supplies.
Ignoring the warnings, Caspian approached the wagon and attempted to open it.
Inside, they also found a caged chicken—loud, restless, and deeply irritating. Caspian, already on edge, stormed in, grabbed the bird, and snapped its neck without hesitation before tossing it to Avery.
The party approached cautiously. Caspian quickly noticed that the symbols on Victor’s grimoire matched those on the signet ring. When questioned, Victor explained that the book was his personal grimoire. After a tense but controlled discussion, he offered a deal: he would allow them to study it—if Caspian gave him the monster-hunting book he carried.
Inside, Caspian was halfway through removing one of his gloves when Kaz knocked and entered. After some hesitation, Caspian admitted that if he were to show this to anyone, it would be Kaz. With a promise of calm and secrecy, Caspian removed the glove fully. From his fingertips to his knuckles, dark, shadow-like tendrils crept beneath his skin. What followed was a rare moment of vulnerability. At Kaz’s gentle invitation, Caspian placed his hand in his. Kaz covered it with his other hand, and a soothing warmth spread through Caspian’s injured knuckles. When Kaz pulled away, the wounds were gone. Shortly after, Kaz left him to clean the dried blood from his hand and glove. When they rejoined downstairs to head toward their meeting point, Caspian seemed to walk just a little closer to Kaz than usual.
Inside, they were greeted by a cheerful man with a monkey perched on his shoulders. He introduced himself as Gadof Blinsky, the shop’s owner. The shelves were packed with toys—though many looked more unsettling than suitable for children. Caspian took the lead, asking if Gadof Blinsky had something appropriate for a ten-year-old girl. The toymaker guided them to a shelf of dolls. Among them stood a striking replica of Strahd and another red-haired doll that bore an uncanny resemblance to Ireena. When questioned, Gadof Blinsky explained that Izek commissions a custom doll each month—and this month’s was the redhead. Unsettled, the party chose a doll that seemed relatively normal and made their purchase.
Outside, they spotted Izek in the street, flanked by guards as he hung posters announcing the upcoming festival. After he left, Caspian tore one down—only to discover another identical festival poster layered beneath it, this one from the previous week.
Returning to the Blue Water Inn, the party rested and discussed their next steps over bowls of Danika’s stew. After the meal, Caspian quietly asked Urwin for a bowl of water and headed upstairs. Soon the group split up: Avery went to the blacksmith, Sophia stepped outside, and Kaz followed Caspian to their room.
The party then traveled to the nearby Vistani settlement outside Vallaki. The scent of wine and horses lingered in the air as they approached. While Sophia and Kaz entered the large central tent, Caspian busied himself greeting each horse he could find.
Avery moved to end it, raising his weapon to take Volenta’s head. Sophia protested, but before the blow could land, Volenta wrenched free and leapt to a neighboring rooftop. Avery jumped after her but ended up hanging from the edge. Seizing the moment, Caspian used Kaz’s help to vault forward, climbing over Avery and continuing the chase. But Volenta proved too quick. With unnatural speed and strange abilities, she fled beyond Vallaki’s walls and vanished into the night.
Caspian barely reacted to that exchange. Instead, he whispered to Volenta, voice tight with restrained fury, “I watched my family be slaughtered by monsters like you. Yet I lived. Why did he spare me?” Volenta only laughed again. “Maybe he’s not done playing with you just yet.” Caspian’s grip tightened in response.
Sophia crossed over and found Caspian sitting alone, fists clenched, staring at the spot where Volenta had disappeared. He noticed her immediately and, as if by instinct, slipped his usual easy smile back into place. He leaned back casually, masking whatever storm still churned beneath the surface. Sophia tried to lighten the mood with a joke, and Caspian played along, falling into familiar banter and flirtation. They shared a brief hug. She jokingly stole his silver pendant before returning it, and together they headed back toward Kaz.
Sophia mentioned that Caspian’s “cuddle buddy” had been worried. Caspian teased Kaz about it, then added more quietly that Kaz’s presence alone was enough.
Sophia was the first to slow Volenta, casting a spell that tangled around the vampire’s legs and pinned her in place. Caspian caught up moments later, seizing her arms and forcing them back between her shoulder blades while pressing a dagger to her throat. Rage simmered beneath his composure. He leaned in close, testing her reaction with a deliberate bite before murmuring into her ear, voice low and edged with dark amusement, “You ran. He doesn’t like that.”
Frustration and fury overtook Caspian. He slammed his fist into a nearby chimney, cracking the stone and bloodying his hand.
Meanwhile, Avery had already returned and was questioning Henrik. The coffin maker admitted that Strahd had manipulated him into allowing Volenta inside. He spoke of a strange green pentagram that had appeared upstairs and confessed that the vampires had been staying there for months. When the rest of the party arrived—Caspian still perched comfortably on Kaz’s back—Henrik explained that Volenta had ordered him to steal the bones so the church’s protection could be destroyed.
Not far away, Sophia sank to her knees on the tiles, whispering through tears, “I’m sorry for bringing you here, Eliana…” Kaz approached awkwardly, doing his best to comfort her despite not quite knowing how. They spoke quietly for a moment before Kaz turned to Avery and asked about Caspian. Avery gestured toward another rooftop, saying he might need a moment.
The chase across Vallaki's rooftops was frantic and dangerous. Caspian led the pursuit, close behind Volenta, with Sophia only a few steps behind him. Kaz and Avery, less agile on the tiles, struggled to keep pace but followed as best they could.
The three made their way down from the rooftops. Caspian, ever the menace, hopped onto Kaz’s back to make the descent more difficult. Kaz briefly summoned radiant wings to soften the landing. Once on the ground, Kaz noticed the blood seeping through Caspian’s glove from the earlier punch. After a few quiet words, he asked to look at it, but Caspian preferred to wait until they were somewhere more private. They agreed to return to the inn later, then headed back toward the Coffin Maker’s Shop.
#battle As the fight raged on, Caspian’s fury grew when he realized that one of their foes was Volenta Popofsky, one of Strahd's favored minions. The party managed to defeat the vampire spawns, except Volenta, who fled through a window. Without hesitation, Caspian leapt after her, following the scent of her blood into the streets below.
After their tense encounter with the Baron Vargas Vallakovich, the party escorted Ireena toward St. Andral’s Church, hoping to secure her safety. As they entered the church grounds, Caspian narrowly avoided colliding with a passerby—only to sidestep another person who stumbled and spilled a handful of nails across the ground. The flustered man introduced himself as Henrik van der Voort, the local coffin maker and occasional carpenter. He mentioned that his shop was located at the south end of the Arasek Stockyard before hurrying off.
Inside, they found Henrik waiting for them, already aware of why they had come. He told them the bones were upstairs and offered to return them—on the condition that the party deal with the vampires currently residing there. At the mention of vampires, both Sophia and Caspian stiffened before Sophia charged upstairs, Caspian close behind.
The party split up to investigate. Kaz and Avery examined the crypt and its surroundings, discovering a strand of short black hair, disturbed dirt, white flower petals, and a large footprint beneath a window—suggesting the thief had escaped that way. Meanwhile, Sophia and Caspian questioned Yeska. The boy insisted he hadn’t told anyone about the bones, but admitted he had seen Milivoj digging near their resting place and overheard part of a suspicious conversation. When the group regrouped, all evidence pointed toward Milivoj.
They located the bones in an upstairs room, Kaz stepping protectively in front of Caspian as Sophia opened the closet containing them. A hidden trap dart coated with poison shoots out and hits Sophia in the hand. Out from the closet a noisemaker starts screeching "Is no fun, is no Blinsky!". As the party attempted to escape, vampires emerged from the adjacent room, forcing them into battle.
With Father Lucian and Ireena in tow, the party made their way to Henrik the Coffin Maker’s Shop. Every window was boarded over, preventing any view inside. Caspian attempted to pick the locks on both the front and back doors, only to find them already destroyed after Henrik refused to let them in. In response, Avery kicked in the back door.
As they ate together, a commotion stirred on the far side of the tavern. A flamboyant bard named Rictavio was entertaining a crowd with dramatic tales of vampires and monsters. Sophia and Avery joined the listeners, while Caspian and Kaz remained at their table. When the performance ended, Rictavio retired for the night, and Avery followed soon after. Sophia lingered at the counter, waiting for Urwin the innkeeper to return from the kitchen.
Meanwhile, in a quiet corner, Kaz and Caspian shared several bottles of wine and spoke candidly. They admitted that they both remained wary of Sophia, still unsure of her intentions. Eventually they retired to their room, finishing one final bottle before falling asleep in each other’s arms, something unspoken settling gently between them.
Morning came abruptly when Sophia woke Kaz and Caspian with little ceremony, giving them just enough time to dress before breakfast. Avery was nowhere to be seen.
Suspicion soon turned toward Rictavio. At Kaz’s urging, Caspian followed the bard through the streets. During the pursuit, Caspian witnessed Rictavio magically alter his appearance, revealing that the persona of the colorful bard was a disguise. Though Caspian tried to keep up, he ultimately lost him in the crowd. He later returned to report what he had seen, arriving just as a tense exchange between Sophia and Kaz was ending.
After a while they find an old watchtower, nothing important inside but Caspian does find a broken silver pendant carved to resemble a dragon lying on the ground of the first floor.
As the others began packing up camp in preparation for the journey to Vallaki — Sophia now traveling with them whether everyone liked it or not — Caspian stretched out on a rug beside Kaz. The argument faded into background noise, replaced by the quiet rhythm of breaking camp and the uneasy sense that their group had just grown more complicated.
Despite the tension, Caspian greeted her warmly. The two fell into conversation with surprising ease, their flirtatious banter flowing naturally. Sophia matched his charm without missing a beat, and their laughter contrasted sharply with the rest of the party’s guarded silence.
The calm didn’t last long. Soon Sophia and Avery were locked in a heated argument of their own, voices rising over the fire as the rest of the camp pretended not to listen. Meanwhile, Caspian and Kaz sat shoulder to shoulder, passing a bottle of wine between them and watching the confrontation unfold like reluctant spectators.
Marianne wagers a little ornate hand mirror. Caspian takes one of his many rings the he wears and wagers that. Kaz wagers a nice Lantern saying "I think some among us might have more use for it", glancing at Marianne. Avery wagers a small wooden holy symbol in the shape of a disk with five different colored dragon heads on it.
After all the wagers are collected they begin telling stories one by one, with Caspian winning the pot by guessing every story correctly. Arturi is the first to head out from the camp for the night. Stanimir and Eliza head to their tents after some time. The players and The blue-tipped Raven start their heading to meet Madam Eva at the crossroads.
As the players enter Madam Evas tent, she welcomes them all, greeting them each personally by name. She also greets The blue-tipped Raven sitting on Caspians shoulder, asking to inspect her, she mentions she once had a beloved pet raven named Turul long ago. Madam Eva tells the players that it is not safe to speak here right now, she asks them to join her at midnight at The River Ivlis crossroads. Specifically noting that they come alone and keep it secret.
Strahd bids them farewell and leaves. When the players prepare to continue their trek towards Tser Pool, and where there was nothing on the gallows, now hangs a lifeless body. To most of the players it looks like a random man, but to Kaz it looks like himself. As soon as Caspian touches the body, it melts into nothingness. They continue now towards Tser Pool. #FindMadamEva
#battle Kaz and Strahd start a duel. Strahd promises to hold back 5 turns, which he does and it seems nothing can actually hurt him, after the 5 turns are over he pummels on Kaz until he accidentally almost hurts Caspian, they call off the fight.
After lunch the burgomaster gives them a Letter in case the players want to enter the other villages in Barovia. The players get shown to their rooms for the night where Marianne finds a page of Van Richten's Guide to Vampires which Caspian recognizes from the Library.
The players manage to do some crowd control with a successful persuasion by Avery with help from Caspian. They get invited into the mansion by Ireena and Kolyan where they all eat Lunch together while talking and looking at a small dilemma the burgomaster has been facing.
After defeating the ghouls last session, the players continue into the Darklord’s Shrine. Caspian seems to maybe recognize the statue's depicted person. They try to take the crystal orb in the hand of the statue but shadows start moving so they put it back. They continue down to the cult leaders quarters
Caspian Ancunin the Elf Rogue
It all starts with Caspian standing in front of a wall of fog, when he suddenly notices Marianne at the same wall. Avery appears behind them and before they can talk they are swallowed by the fog. They appear in front of the Death House where Kaz is already inspecting the gate of the house.
