Avery revealed he sought revenge for his younger brother, already lost to Strahd.
Avery’s frustration flared at the thought that they may have been unknowingly guided into all of this. But through questioning, the truth came out: Van Richten had not kidnapped Arabelle—he had rescued her from vampires. They also learned that Strahd had placed a bounty on her, which was why she had been taken in the first place.
Caspian shared that his entire life had been destroyed by Strahd and his vampires, his family slaughtered before him… though he hinted there was more to the story.
As the confrontation escalated, Arrigal produced the severed head of a man connected to the earlier events. Van Richten used a magical amulet to briefly reanimate it and question it. The head confirmed it had served Strahd—and that Strahd had indeed ordered Arabelle to be captured, a task given to the vampire Escher.
It quickly became clear that Arrigal intended to take Arabelle back to the Vistani camp. However, tensions rose as the party also realized he had been working for Strahd—and had been following them throughout their search.
With the truth laid bare, the tension slowly eased. In the end, an agreement was reached: Arrigal and Van Richten would escort Arabelle safely to the church, where she would be protected. Arrigal also offered the party a single favor—he would mislead Strahd on their behalf, once.
Inside, they were greeted by a cheerful man with a monkey perched on his shoulders. He introduced himself as Gadof Blinsky, the shop’s owner. The shelves were packed with toys—though many looked more unsettling than suitable for children. Caspian took the lead, asking if Gadof Blinsky had something appropriate for a ten-year-old girl. The toymaker guided them to a shelf of dolls. Among them stood a striking replica of Strahd and another red-haired doll that bore an uncanny resemblance to Ireena. When questioned, Gadof Blinsky explained that Izek commissions a custom doll each month—and this month’s was the redhead. Unsettled, the party chose a doll that seemed relatively normal and made their purchase.
Meanwhile, Avery had already returned and was questioning Henrik. The coffin maker admitted that Strahd had manipulated him into allowing Volenta inside. He spoke of a strange green pentagram that had appeared upstairs and confessed that the vampires had been staying there for months. When the rest of the party arrived—Caspian still perched comfortably on Kaz’s back—Henrik explained that Volenta had ordered him to steal the bones so the church’s protection could be destroyed.
#battle As the fight raged on, Caspian’s fury grew when he realized that one of their foes was Volenta Popofsky, one of Strahd's favored minions. The party managed to defeat the vampire spawns, except Volenta, who fled through a window. Without hesitation, Caspian leapt after her, following the scent of her blood into the streets below.
Ireena pleaded with him to grant shelter to the refugees outside the walls, but the Baron rejected the request without hesitation. Kaz rose and, with carefully measured politeness, insulted the Baron while questioning why he did not simply attack the being the townsfolk called “the devil.” The Baron insisted that his upcoming festival—only four days away—would keep the Devil at bay. He invited the party to attend as honored guests, then took his leave with the chilling reassurance: “All will indeed be well.” The party was left alone in the meeting room, the weight of his words hanging heavily in the air.
Kaz was the first to voice what many were thinking. He accused Sophia outright of serving Strahd. The camp went still. Sophia's smile vanished, replaced by sharp indignation as she denied the accusation without hesitation. Her response was firm, almost offended, and after a tense exchange the party slowly eased — not trusting her, but no longer on the brink of hostility.
The players arrive at the bridge over the Ivlis River where they meet a Revenant standing in the middle of the bridge. It asks the players what business they have here and if they serve Strahd. The players ofc answer that they don't and they plan on defeating Strahd. The Revenant advises them to travel to Argynvostholt to the west, where Sir Godfrey Gwilym awaits those who would raise their swords against the darkness that lurks in the castle's depths. #SpeakToSirGodfreyGwilym.
As they arrive at the crossroads they see a cloaked silhouette standing beside the gallows. She waves them towards her without turning around. As the clock strikes midnight, over a hundred spirits rise from the graveyard and start marching towards Castle Ravenloft. Madam Eva tells the players that these spirits are from adventurers killed on their quest to beat Strahd and every midnight the spirits march. As the spirits disappear in the darkness Madam Eva turns around and tells them, if they choose this path, this might be their fate.
The players hear a sound coming from a bush. Avery grabs Eliza by the collar and rips her out of the bush. She admits to trying to spy on them for Strahd. She tells them that few Vistani agree with her beliefs or loyalty to Strahd. A fact that drives her to curse the "ungrateful" and "faithless" among them. Although she doesn't believe Barovia is the ancestral home of the Vistani, Eliza believes it to be a new home that Strahd found for them. They tie her up to a tree and gag her, continuing on their way.
Strahd bids them farewell and leaves. When the players prepare to continue their trek towards Tser Pool, and where there was nothing on the gallows, now hangs a lifeless body. To most of the players it looks like a random man, but to Kaz it looks like himself. As soon as Caspian touches the body, it melts into nothingness. They continue now towards Tser Pool. #FindMadamEva
#battle Kaz and Strahd start a duel. Strahd promises to hold back 5 turns, which he does and it seems nothing can actually hurt him, after the 5 turns are over he pummels on Kaz until he accidentally almost hurts Caspian, they call off the fight.
In front of them is a large black carriage drawn by two black horses, in the coach box the players see a man which Ireena identifies as Escher gasping that he should be dead. Escher steps down and opens the door of the carriage and out comes a man, Strahd von Zarovich. He looks around and greets all of the players and some conversation begins, he asks the players quite a few hypothetical questions. At the end of his questioning he gets challenged by Kaz and they decide to fight.
The players have entered the land of Barovia, a realm surrounded by deadly fog and ruled by Strahd von Zarovich, a powerful vampire who slumbered in Castle Ravenloft until recently.
