17 Arabelle calmly asked Rictavio to drop his disguise. After a brief pause, he complied, revealing his true identity:
17 Arabelle then revealed something even more significant.
17 Avery’s frustration flared at the thought that they may have been unknowingly guided into all of this. But through questioning, the truth came out: Van Richten had not kidnapped Arabelle—he had rescued her from vampires. They also learned that Strahd had placed a bounty on her, which was why she had been taken in the first place.
17 Sophia immediately moved to Arabelle’s side, kneeling in front of her and gently asking if she was alright. The girl responded with an unsettling calm, assuring them she was unharmed. Then she added something strange:
17 As the confrontation escalated, Arrigal produced the severed head of a man connected to the earlier events. Van Richten used a magical amulet to briefly reanimate it and question it. The head confirmed it had served Strahd—and that Strahd had indeed ordered Arabelle to be captured, a task given to the vampire Escher.
17 As they took in their surroundings, it became clear—both Arabelle and Van Richten had been expecting them.
17 Both Arrigal and Van Richten stood on the brink of violence, each assuming the other meant harm to the girl. Arabelle, however, intervened, urging the party to help them see reason.
17 It quickly became clear that Arrigal intended to take Arabelle back to the Vistani camp. However, tensions rose as the party also realized he had been working for Strahd—and had been following them throughout their search.
17 The party stepped out of the wagon to find Arrigal, Arabelle’s uncle, waiting for them.
17 The words sent a ripple of confusion through the party. Arabelle shouldn’t have known what they had gone through.
17 To their surprise, they found Arabelle inside—the very girl they had been searching for.
17 With the truth laid bare, the tension slowly eased. In the end, an agreement was reached: Arrigal and Van Richten would escort Arabelle safely to the church, where she would be protected. Arrigal also offered the party a single favor—he would mislead Strahd on their behalf, once.
14 Inside, they witnessed a heated scene. A man named Luvash was shouting in anguish about his missing daughter, Arabelle, while another man, Arrigal, restrained him. Sophia explained they had come on Madam Eva’s behalf with a birthday gift, only to learn that Arabelle had gone missing the previous night while under Alexei’s watch. The only clue left behind was a strange signet ring, now in the possession of Kasimir Velikov. The Vistani suggested that the Baron’s library might hold answers about the ring’s origin—but as Vistani, they could not enter Vallaki themselves.
14 It was around midday when the party stepped out of the Coffin Maker’s Shop and back into the streets of Vallaki. As they walked, they decided to stop by the local toy shop Blinsky Toys to purchase a birthday gift for Arabelle, Madam Eva’s granddaughter.
14 With a new lead in hand, the party returned to Vallaki. As they approached the Baron’s mansion once more, Avery stepped forward and knocked, hoping to gain access to the Baron’s library—and perhaps uncover the truth behind the ring and Arabelle’s disappearance.
09 Madam Eva asks the players if they can get her great-grand-niece Arabelle a birthday gift from Blinsky Toys in Vallaki and deliver the toy to the Vistani encampment to the southwest of Vallaki by noon on Arabelle's nameday in two days' time (she gives the players a pouch with 10gp). #ArabellesBirthdayGift
