After battling numerous enemies on the road, the party finally arrived at the gates of Vallaki. Outside the walls, a refugee camp sprawled along the roadside. There, Ireena chose to part from the group temporarily, promising to reunite with them in the morning after speaking with people in the camp. The party approached the city gates and was stopped by the guards. As a precaution against vampires, each traveler was ordered to bare their teeth for inspection. They were also required to surrender any silver upon entry. Through careful deception, the party convinced the guards they carried none, despite the truth. Avery paid the entrance fee for everyone, and at last they were allowed inside the city, eager to find both the Baron and a place to rest. After asking around, they located the Baron’s mansion, only to be turned away by the guards, who informed them that no audience would be granted until morning. The party scheduled an appointment and headed instead to the Blue Water Inn. There they secured rooms and were served food and drinks for the evening.
As the others began packing up camp in preparation for the journey to Vallaki — Sophia now traveling with them whether everyone liked it or not — Caspian stretched out on a rug beside Kaz. The argument faded into background noise, replaced by the quiet rhythm of breaking camp and the uneasy sense that their group had just grown more complicated.
Madam Eva asks the players if they can get her great-grand-niece Arabelle a birthday gift from Blinsky Toys in Vallaki and deliver the toy to the Vistani encampment to the southwest of Vallaki by noon on Arabelle's nameday in two days' time (she gives the players a pouch with 10gp). #ArabellesBirthdayGift
When they reach the crossroads between Barovia Village, Tser Pool and Ravenloft/Vallaki, they stop and look at the old wooden gallow that's right there in the middle. When behind them they can hear the sound of a horse drawn carriage.
Several dozen Barovians fled to the town of Vallaki, almost a day’s travel to the west. The remainder stayed in the village, determined to defend their homes and those who were unable to make the journey.
